12-month Enrollment (E12)

Survey Component Overview

The IPEDS 12-month Enrollment survey collects unduplicated student enrollment counts and instructional activity data in postsecondary institutions for an entire 12- month period. The 12-month enrollment data are collected by attendance status (full-time, part-time), gender, race/ethnicity for undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the data are collected by applicable progression statuses (e.g., first-time entering, transfer-in, and continuing/returning) and applicable degree/certificate-seeking statuses (e.g., degree/certificate-seeking, non-degree/non-certificate-seeking) for undergraduate students. Instructional activity is collected as total clock and/or contact hours delivered by institutions at the undergraduate and graduate level. Using the instructional activity data reported, a full-time equivalent (FTE) student enrollment at the undergraduate and graduate level is estimated.
